Some parents asking kids to stay away from UF campus today
Tampa attorney Carter McCain said he's among a number of parents asking their children at the University of Florida to stay away from campus today as the school prepares for an afternoon speech by white nationalist Richard Spencer.
McCain has two daughters at UF, one a senior, one a sophomore.
One daughter is coming home, one is not sure yet because she has a First Amendment class that has not been canceled. A number of classes have been cancelled.
McCain said he knows of many parents who have asked their children to come home.
He says any parent would want their child safe, given the events earlier in Charlottesville.
“This crazy guy is going to attract the type of people who come not to attend a free speech rally, but to act out violence," McCain said. "It’s a pep rally for violence.”
